ACID appoints new General Manager

Thursday, 11th January 2007

Dr Terry Cutler, Chairman of the Australasian Cooperative Research Centre for Interaction Design (ACID), today announced the appointment of Ms Suzannah Conway as General Manager, reporting directly to the Board in a new leadership structure for the CRC.

Dr Cutler said Ms Conway brings to ACID a wealth of experience in the stewardship of professional, business-focused organisations in the creative industries.

“Ms Conway has held executive management roles in key arts organisations for most of her career,” he said. “She brings knowledge of creative industries and experience working with creative practitioners, along with sound business acumen to produce financial stability and growth.”

Ms Conway joins ACID from overseeing the transition to and strategic planning for the newly created Museum and Gallery Services Queensland, an amalgamation of the former Regional Galleries Association Queensland and Museums Australia Queensland. Among other things, Ms Conway is credited with previously having turned around the former Lyric Opera of Queensland creating Opera Queensland, and she headed the Centenary of Federation program for Queensland and ran three highly successful annual Brisbane Riverfestivals.

Dr Cutler said the appointment of a General Manager gives a new shape to ACID’s leadership structure.

“It’s similar to the Director/Executive Producer structure of film companies,” he said.

“Professor Jeff Jones will continue to drive the vision and direction of ACID’s research and commercialisation programs as Executive Director while Ms Conway, in her role as General Manager, will direct the organisation's operations and business development in a collaborative partnership”.

“The new leadership relationship will strengthen ACID’s ability to be flexible, responsive and inventive off a platform of sound governance and stewardship”.

Ms Conway will take up her new position at ACID on Monday 15 January 2007.
